The man in black was already waiting for them. “I see you’ve completed all your missions.” He said, “Like I have told you before, I will offer you a place in the Father’s Temple and grant you three wishes. You do not have to choose to join the Fulfillment system, but I will give you an offer anyways. You have helped us greatly. What do you think about the offer?”
The trio were all quite confused. “How about explaining to us what the Father’s Temple is?” Kyle suggested.
“My apologies for not explaining earlier. The Father’s Temple is an organization of people, like me, who work for the world. They are like God, but with more power comes more responsibility. They all have different jobs, some who punish the bad and others who reward the good. The Fulfillment System is part of the Father’s Temple. We work to help those who have lost their chance of winning a competition or getting something, they deserved due to outside issues and whatsoever, another chance. Each person we help allows us to get “paid” in the Father’s Temple. The Temple gives us abilities to do whatever we want and never die, but if we don’t get “paid” at least three times a year, our souls will directly go back into the life cycle and transfer into a new body, losing our identity as a Fulfiller.
You see, we used to help these people by transferring our own souls onto them and dialing the time back to when they hadn't lost their chance. However, doing this could damage our own souls a lot, since we are different from humans. By putting our souls into containers, or the bodies of humans, we reduce the immortality we have. Just this year, we discovered that we could persuade humans to transfer souls instead of us and the closer the two people are, the less damage it causes. If the client and the helper were both the same age, gender and communicated the same way, the damage is reduced to almost none. That’s why I chose you three. I’ve analyzed all your behavior in the last few months and decided that you three were one of the best helpers I can get. In the first mission, with Kyle’s help, the client won his medal that he did not get when the second place pulled him back. In the second mission, Charlotte found out about the bribing, but without anyone to help her stop it, she would have lost her honor. In the last mission, Jessica knew that she would receive a property that signified her and her best friend’s friendship since her best friend’s father called in a day before. However, due to the weather and without the strong willingness to survive Charlie produced, she would have soon fallen into her own illusions and drowned into the deep sea just like her best friend. She would not get the locket either." After explaining, the trio started understanding.
“I understand about the fulfillment, but if the other two keys were all important properties of the owner, why was Charlotte's picture?” Vivian asked.
“The original photo was Selena’s photo that was reported in the newspaper as the future best performer. Charlotte was angry when she saw it. She accidentally spilled water on the photo. She knew that Selena did not own the seat with her skills, but her money. The water allowed the paint to come off the paper, but it also made a faint figure of someone that looked somehow alike to Charlotte. ‘If I didn’t win, maybe I could if I imagined it.’ She thought. She used a pen and the water to draw herself on top of Selena’s photo, trying to make it like it was herself who actually won. That was the first thing that led Charlotte to her death. She committed suicide a month later, her mental state broke and thought that if she died, she would go to the imagined world where she won.” The Fulfiller said, “She of course came to the Fulfillment section, and we had to help.”
“Why couldn’t you tell us this at first?” Charlie questioned; it would have been so much easier if he did.
The Fulfiller sighed, “I wish I could, but allowing humans to help us with missions was not approved by the superiors in the Father’s Temple yet, so doing this is actually illegal. If I told you what you were doing at first, many of you would not want to do it and talking about the mission would also expose me to the other Fulfillers. We are all equipped with a system that detects if our job is exposed to humans. If anybody talks about it, a Fulfillerin the same country would know. Some Fulfillers are very hard to deal with and I do not want to risk my job. I’m very sorry." The Fulfiller said with regret.
“Do you members of the Temple disguise as humans and hide within the society?” Kyle asked.
“No, we live above a hidden area in the dome, or the sky as you call it. Without dying or getting a job there, humans could not reach it at any point. Now we Fulfillers must choose humans to help us very carefully.
They need to fit the fulfillments and be kind and clever. If they are not kind, they might not be willing to help. Forcing humans or threatening them can make me lose my job permanently instantly. If they are not clever, they would not understand the clues and what’s going on. Each time the first mission would always be the hardest. After beating that one, 80% of the helpers complete all the missions. Since you’ve done so much to help, you would not be cared about by the other Fulfillers. That’s basically all. You can choose either to lose all your memory of this and get permanent prevention of dying from accidents and three wishes, or you can choose to keep your memory and become one of the Fulfillers and one wish.” The Fulfiller stated.
“Be careful, if you choose to be a Fulfiller, you must work your best to help the human society. You will not be known as your name anymore, but as a code. For example, I’m number F71. You could still keep your given name and use it when you go down to the human world, but with your identity as a Fulfiller comes your identity code. It will not be erased, and it will represent you and only you.” F71 said, “Also, each time you go down to the human realm, you must cover your face or change your appearance. Seeing a Fulfiller could cost the life of a human.Compared to other jobs, Fulfillers are not completely controlled by superiors. If they give rules, you listen. But otherwise, do whatever you want. The only tricky people are some of the other Fulfillers, like F02 or F98. If you chose to be a Fulfiller, nobody would guide you and help you with your job. You learn by seeing and hearing me talk.” F71 said with a solemn voice.
“Now it is your choice to choose. Return to the world you came from, with no change in the time but no memories either. Or, become a Fulfiller, like me. You have 10 minutes to decide. Do not worry about your parents and family. They will be alerted by the superiors, and you’re welcome to go see them, even live with them whenever you want. You are only allowed to entirely step into the Father’s realm after you completed your school and graduated from college. Before that, you do not need to help three souls, or any souls each year since you are not completely a Fulfiller, and the "payment’ would not be of any help to you. Nothing would change much except for your job and identity. Your identity code would be given out after you graduate.” F71 continued.
There was nothing more to ask by the trio. If they choose to return to the original world, they will lose their memory. If they choose to become a Fulfiller, they will be given more responsibility.
“Vivian, what do you choose?” Kyle asked, hesitating. “I’m not sure. I certainly do not wish to lose my memory, but I still want to be human.” Vivian replied, struggling with her decision.
Charlie was also struggling with her decision. Everything seemed to point towards becoming a Fulfiller as a better choice. She did not want to lose these precious memories of an entirely new world and amazing friends. After a few moments of thinking, Charlie turned to F71. “I would like to become a Fulfiller.” Charlie said.
“Me too.”
“Same.”
Vivian and Kyle replied after. F71 nodded, “What do you want your wish to be? Charlie, you go first. Remember, it can not be something that you yourself cannot achieve even if you tried your best. Getting into Harvard is not allowed for example.” Charlie hesitated. She did not know what she really wanted or needed.
“I hope for all of my friends and family to be happy and healthy.” She finally said. This seemed to be a great wish and F71 nodded in agreement.
“What about you two?” The Fulfiller asked as he turned to the siblings. Kyle and Vivian looked at each other.
“We have the same hope as Charlie.” Vivian said as Kyle nodded. They were also pleased with this wish. The Fulfiller nodded again, and winds started to blow around him.
“You have chosen your path. Thank you all for helping me. You may return to your original destination now, future Fulfillers. We may meet again. I hope the best for youall, farewell.” He finally said, as the wind increased around him and disappeared into the blinding white light that filled the train again. Everything returned to the way it was as Charlie arrived on the train but missing the man inthe corner. The train continued with the same speed. Not even a second had passed in real time. Charlie looked at Vivian and Kyle, their sights communicating something. Everything was the same, but everything was different, and they all knew that. What awaited them soon, was an entirely new life.
