Art
Portrait
I am learning how to paint with details, studying the facial features and body structure of people. I especially enjoy observing expressions on their faces, and how subtle changes in small details could affect the entire feeling of the painting. While drawing people, I also enjoy adding different styles of light, creating multiple colors on the character, and investigating how light affects objects with different texture, such as the differences of light reacting on skin and light reacting on hair. In my painting where the girl looks outside the window, I added vibrant colors that light created on her face, creating contrast as well as making the picture more vivid.
Observation Sketching
This category of my art specifically dedicated to illustrating real-life objects. This is also an utmost important part in art, one of the fundamental skills required. Through observing a variety of objects, and transporting these images objectively onto my canvas, I have paid more attention to details not only in drawing but also everyday life. These skills have improved my art by large scales certainly. Different objects also appear differently, as the material varies from one to another, from fabric to metal to glass, I have tried multiple different styles and ways to represent these different textures in my art.
Animal
This category includes adorable animals that I have illustrated with different materials. In the past, I have drawn many different animals, and I chose four of my favorites. I have always had a passion and emotional connection towards animals, while adoring them also enjoy the process of bringing their interesting expressions onto paper. Every animal has different features and different habitats, but they all belong to the bountiful nature on Earth. Different animals with different styles of fur can be represented by using different materials, such as color pencil for detailed thin fur, and oil paint for chunky fur. Animals on Earth are suffering from human actions, losing their habitat and their family, from the hands of our own people. Humans should live with animals together to create a peaceful Earth for everyone. This urges me to create more art about animals, hoping that everyone would realize this problem and act.
Scenery
My extensive travel experiences have led me to develop a keen interest in recording different scenes through art. Unlike photography, drawing allows me to add my own style and perspective to the scenery I'm exploring. From my paintbrush, I could convey my own understanding of the scene, and add different senses of color, presenting the scene with a different and unique taste. Oil pastels are my medium of choice for these kinds of paintings because they provide a smooth but unique texture that helps me recreate the scene in my own artistic style.
Dessert
This category is fascinating to me. The simple structure of each painting with pastel and thick colors makes cakes and desserts look extra cute. As someone who loves to eat sweets, I know that they can be a great remedy for when I am feeling down or struggling. Even if you are already happy, you should surely eat more sweets to celebrate! The series of oil paintings that I have created are dedicated to showing the happiness and sweetness that cakes could bring, as well as the creamy texture with extra layers of paint.
Material
The last category is the different styles I have tried in art, not only drawing. The first two pictures of the Buddha are created by the style of printing, and the green octopus is created by combining lots of different materials, mainly like colorful clay, and beads as well as yarn for hair. To me, it was surely an exciting and new experience in learning, and it also expanded my area of knowledge in art. I am looking forward to trying more forms of art in the future.
